Interesting Address By Major Slipper BIBLE PROPHECIES Ap interesting lecture was given inthe British Israel Hall, Charlea street, Hastings, by Major J. E. T. Slipper. The subject was: "Suez: Past, Present and Puture.,? ' ' '■ -• Major Slipper stated that it had been suggested in England to construct a rqute via the Dead Sea and Oulf of Akabah, and that eertain financial institutions were prepared to provide the necessary' finance. The ppeaker did not agree that this would be done. Firstly, for . international reaeons; geeondly, financial disturbance in that particular regionj thirdly, as such a,n act was contrary to prophecy, With the aid of a large map, together with several cross secti'ons of the country, it was possible to f ollow the engineering problem, and if the proposed canal were to be cut froin Haifa via the Plains of Megiddo aud Jezreel, no very great difiiculties wero presented, • Having dealt fairly fully with' the matter, also the. history of the Suez Canal, the speaker turied to the Bible in support of his contentipn that the canal would pever be ppened by man, and that wHen'tlie Mediterrariean, or Great Sea, did enter intp the Valley of the JoEdan major, aq undonbtedly . it would at some date yet unknown, it would pot be a rival to Suez, as Su®z would be destroyed, Many engineers were agreed that the scour would be so tremendous that the silt would be driven into the water of less resistance and there settle, blocldng up the present canal. Also, it was possible that the violent disturbance might force the water over the low-lying coast of Africa, pick up the Nile," and in returning to its level, would syphon the Blue Nile into the Eed Sea. "From Akabah to the entrance of the canal proper is known'in the Bible as, the tqngue of the Egyptian Spa, ' ' continued the speaker, "Its destructiprt is prophesied in Isaiah 11th, 15 aud 16. The destruction of fhe Nile, or the river of the seven streams, is dealt with in Isaiah 11th, 15 and 16, also Isaiah 19th, 4.8. That the great sea Will one day enter the Jordan, Valley is ghown in Ezekiei 47th, 10, Engedi ia PU a level with the Mediterraneati Sea^ but at present is a hill 1000 feet above fhe Jordan. Palestine is situated on the earthqueke belt, and has been. subr jeeted to great mpiieavals iq. the past, and whp,t has been before? can and probably will, be again. Jerusalem is destined to bq the # centre of world government, and must be a maritime .city fo'r many reasons. Eeference tp eafthquake was given as Ezekiei 38th; 19-20, and Zeehariph 14th, 10, alsq ^echarigh 14th, 14-5," A hearty yote of thankg was pccordr ed Major Slipper for his interesting address. *
