(Beceived 8, 9.45 a.m.) LONDOK, Kov. 7. How crippled boys helpea to save the life of an infantile paralysis victim when meehahism operating an "iron lung" failed, was related by Sir Henry Ganvain. Eric Marchant, aged nine, was admitted to hospital at Alton three weeks ago, with his leg and arm muscles paralysed, the paralysis spreading to the respiratory abdominal museles. He had been for several hours unconscious Wben the "iron lung" arrived from London; then the voltage was found unsuitable for the pump. ltelays of people worked a pump hand. The child's father helped. "We band:pumped for nine hours until engineers got the motor working," Sir Henry added. "Then the gears went wrong, and ha'nd-pumping was resumed for another 15£ hours. Doctors, porters and cripples aged from 14 to 16 participated. Later we received a new machine. Eric is improving bnormously."
