Mr Donald Hainey, of Tollemacbe road, left by the mail train this morning on a visit to Auckland, Mr T. A* Moodie, New Zealand superintendent for Dalgety and Co., Ltd., has returned to Wellington after a week-end visit to Napier, Mr. H. G. Apsey, of "Hastings, left by the mail train this morning for Wellington in connection with work of the Seientic and Industrial Research Department. • • Mr. E, L, Cullcn, M.P., left Hastings this morning for Wellington after spending tbe week-end in bis eloctorate. Tbe Rev. Jbbn Cable, vicar of Henderson, has resigned' owing to illhealth. The Rev. W. H. Styeh, vicar of Te Kopuru, has been appointed his successor. ; The Rev. F, L. Farsons, formorly vicar of Helensville, has assumed his new duties as vicar of Ellerslie. His place at Helensville has been filled by the Rev. Edwin Wright, who was vicar of Huntly. • Mr. W. R. Brown has been apointed District Land Registrar at Nelson, Mr. A. Fowler has been appointed to a s;milar position at Blenheim. Mr. W, F. Jordan, onJy son of the Higb Commissioner for New Zealand, Mr. W. J. Jordan, has been successful in passing the matriculatiou examination of London TJniversity. Of 730 who sat only 230 passed, and Mr. Jordan, junr., was among the lirst 25 to secure the highest marks, He is now continuin^- his education at St. Aadrew's UnivefSity, Scotland. Dr. J. A. Stallwortby (Otago TJniver?Hy), who 4recently completed a »year at tbe Chelsea Hospital for Women, ha» been appointed first assistant to tbo professor of obstetrics ' and gynaecology nnder the Nuffield scheme at Oxford Universjty, It is expecfed the assistant Australien Trade Commissioner in New Zealand, Mr. Payne, will be appointed to Batavia to succeed Mr. Critcbley, wbo is going to New Zealand as Trade Commissioner, states a Canberra messagc. Mr. Payne will be succeeded by Mr. L. Menzies, brotber of the attornay-gen-eral. Mr. S. S. M. Bish, tbe present town clerk of Pukekohe, "was appointed town clerk of Takapuna at a speeial meeting of the Takapuna Borougb Council. Mr. Bish, wbo wi'll take up, his new position in fivo weeks' time, was selected from 34 applicants. Mrs. Julia Hamilton, of Christchurch, who celebrated her 97th birthday last Week, has the rare distinction of being a greaf-great-grandmdtber. AlthougU ber eyesight is failing 3lowly, Mrs, Hamilton hears clearly, walks unaided, and possesses'a very keen intellect.' Mr. Arthur Selby, Auckland 's "grand old man" of dhe turf and hunting field, celebrated his 92nd birthday on Saturday. He is in posgession of all bis faculties, tends tbe garden of his cottage at Howick and plays bowls, being the president of the local club. Tbe Hon. B. C. RobbinS, M.L.C., and Mrs. Robbins, of Tauranga, will celebrate tbe 50th annivers,ary of their wedding at tho home of their Saugbter, Mrs. H, G. Reynolds, Union street, Hamilton, to-morrow. Mr. and Mrs. Robbins were married by tbe late Rev. James Treadwell, at Durie Hill, Wanganui, on November 9, 18,87, Mrs. Robbins was formerly Miss Jane Anne Ross, tbe eldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ross, of Wanganui.
