At .the monthly meeting of the Waipukurau County Council on , Saturday, the Central Hawke's Bay Electric Pow.er Board advised that it had voted "£o towards the .cost- of river protection work.. The , Waipukurau ^Borougli Council a.dyised'that it-had* agreed to assist the • work to - the extent of one-f ourth of the.cost up to a . total expenditure of ■ £40. ■ Answering a councillor, the clerk, Mr E. B. Price, said the : cost would be about £30, perhaps less. Cr. Monckton said the work would not cost a great. deal. There was a cnannel about three" feet from the river/ and the Power Board plant and the. pumping station was endaneered, Tlie Waipukurau County Council was not very mterested, . but the work ' would save a section it owned. Tle considered that the protection should be about iive chains further up the river than the danger spot. It was decided that tho clerk approach the Power Board and Borough Council with a-view to obtaining a subsidy of £7 from each. The County Council itseif also will contribute £7 and if the subsidies are received ijte prdtection work (willow plaiiting) will bt carriod out.
