MR. SAMUEL CECIL LANE

The death occurred yesterday of Mr. Samuel Cecil Lane, a well-known citizen of Hastings and a son of a former Mayof, the . late Mr. William Lane. Born' in Hastings in 1878 tbd late Mr. Lane has lived the whole of his life in this district, being for nearly 25 years a leading taxi proprietor and then in recent years he carried on as a tobacconist. ' Though he has not taken an active part in the activties of any local bodies or organisations, Mr. Lane's support was always fortheoming for anything that was in the direction of developing the town in which he tnok justifiable pride in its progress. He was keenly interested in Rugby football, which is not surprising, for he was a grandson of the late Mr. William Henry Lane who donated the Lane Cup, one of tho principal trophies competed for in this district. , In addition to tho' widow, there are left four sons, Messrs. William Lane, of Feilding, Cecil S. Lane, and Henry Lane, of Hastings, and Gordon Lane, of Woodville, and one daughter, Mrs. A. Ware, of Hastings. There is also one sis'ter, Mrs. J. Murphy, of Manaia. The funeral will leave thq fesidence of the daughter, 711 Fitzroy avenue, at two o'clock to-morrow afternoon for the Hastings Ceme^erv,
