Housing lor 1000 Greyhounds
(By Air Mail-
> LONDON, Oct. 13. A quarter of a million pouads is.to be epent in transforming the Barrow Hill estate, Chertsey, Surrey, into a "Greyhoimd Garden City," to house the 1Q00 racing dogs under the care of the Greyhound Bacing Association. • Work will feegin in February, and it is expected that most of the kennels now at Northolt will be transferred there within the first six months. The« task of building the greyhound "city" will take a year. Lack of space at Northolt, and -the fact that a gravel soil is more suitable for the dogs' welfare, wero two main reasons for the association 's decision to make this change. "At Barrow Hill 800 acres are available. In this space kennels will be "laid out in the form of "streets,'' divided into "block's'' which will be air-conditioned. Thare will be a dogs' hospital' cquippcd with dental. X-iay and ultraviolet apparatus. Electrie kitchens will prepare the dogs' food, and a prize herd of dairy Shorthorni' will ensure a supply of jnilk. All the dogs, which. are classed as Greyhound Racing Association animals, are privately owned, but are cared for by tlie association for a weekly fee. Barrow Hill was formerly owncd by Lord Camrose. •
