Waipawa Annual Meeting ROYAL MINSTREL WINS The Waipawa County Racing Club held its annual meeting at Hastings in Deautiful weather when there was a moderate attendance. The course was in excellent order, being fast. With/ the exception of the opening .event, which was over hurdies,, good fields went to the post and some splen1 *id racing was witnessed. t Eight races were on the programme and the public were treated to an enjoyable afternoon's eport. Mr 1-L li Bergin, of Foxton, was in the juoge's box and the fields were dispatched by Mr A. Yincent. Alr A. E. Wishart, secretary to the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club, aeted as oeeretary for the meeting, and the ar» rangements were capable carried out 6y the various officials. (Winner trained by G. W. G. Greene, •Hastings). Only three starters went to tlfo post, as Tuesday's injury to Cletrac prevented him going to the post. Begorrah and Top Hat, from the very commencement, put a big break on Iddo, who was very sore and who remained at .least twenty lengths in the rear of tho other pajr all thb tvay. Over the eeeond fence Top Hat'«went to the front and remained there all the way. In the run home, after .negotiating the last fence,' Begorrah put in his claim, but Top Hat Was full of ruuning and went to win by a baro two lengths, with Iddo 100 yards back third. Time, 2.48. W» Price, Has--tings)k From a good start,- after a.few minutes delay, the first to show out was Le Toquet, who led narrowly from Felicitation, Granvale, Thala,. Fossicker, Hamarin and Joe Louis. Before coming to. the four furlong post Fossicker had run up to . join Le Toquet m the lead, closely attended by Granvale, Felicitation, Thala, oe Louis, Hamarin and Gaelic SSong. From the half-mile boud to the-straight Fossicker had dropped back into third position behind Le Toquet and Granvale, while behind Fossicker came Gaelic Song, Joe Louis, Hamarin, Felicitation and Thala. In an mteresting .finish Fossicker gofc home first by a neck, with a similar distance between Felicitation and Granvale for second and third. Hamarin was fourth, Le Toquet iifth and Larwood sixth. At the f ar • turn Reasonable had joined Tommy Atkins in the lead, closely foll-owed by Oha, Haile Selassie, King's Hope, Star Lad and Jacynth. Tommy Atkins was first to enter the straight just ahead of Reasonable, Golden Memory, Mahutai, Oha and Power Chief. Several appeared to have a cliance of success m the ru.n to the judge's box and in a elose finish Reasonable prevaiied by half a length with King's Hope a head in front of Star Lad. Then cnme Golden Memory, Oha, and Daryill. Timo, 1.15 3-5. WAIPAWA COUNTY IIANDICAP Of £150; 1£ uiile. 1 ROYAL MINSTREL Mr O. To the half-mile post there was practically no alteration in the running order although the field becam© more bunched, and in the next two furlongs the favOurite began to improve his position. Entering the home turn the field fanned to maka them all in a line. Royal Minstrel put in his claim with a clearing to go on a.Dd win nicely by half a' length, from Buster Brown with Soho a head a... third, then came Gay Hunter and Maine, with Pladie last. Time, 2.9.
