(Keceived 6, 12.40 p.m.) SYDNEY, Nov. 3. Details of a tiagedy ia which oix Solomon Island nativcs cied in agonising circnmstances were related by Mr. D. Lazarus, a trader, of Tulagi, who reached Sydney from the Solomons. Two canoes carrying 14 natives set out from Ontong, Java, for Tasman Island, 30 miles away, he said. Whew they were half-way across, a terrifie storm broke. The canoes, blown out to sea, were adrift for three weeks. The tropical heat and lft clc of food ravaged the natives. Their thirst was palliated slightly by Tain caught in the sails. Five died of thirst and exposure and the sixth was fatally mauled by a shark when he fell overboard.
