PALMERSTON N.t Last Night. Two similar remits' on the subject of| the lifting of the stoclc embargo were' before the anhual conference of the N.Z. Dairy Breeds Federation in Palmerston North '.Yesterday. They " were from the Jersey. and Ayrshire Cattle Breeders Associations' and favoured di- J rect importations, from Britain. The Ayrshire Breeders Association forwarded figures slfowing the excessive cost of bringing , animals out through Canada. , Stock. purchased at £305 in Scotland^ cost .£1441 before arrival in New ZcalancL . ■ . - Mr C. G. .'C; Dermer (Cheltenham,) said to bring one animal out from England via Tasmania cost £175, whereas direct the cost would only be £85 to £90. . Mr Dermer also said that while in England he had discovered that the English breeders thought ' it was Dominion breeders who were trying to keep the • embargo going 'find 'he 'had taken the lopportunity to corrcct 'that impression. He spoke of the stric'oness of the quarantine regulations in -England and' said the ro w'a3 no fear of th'e 'disease' teaching New Zealand and so no danger from allowing direct importations.
