PRESBYTERIAN GUILD HOLD GARDEN MEETING
Despite the overeast weather yesterday afternoon 'a very happy garden party was enjoyed by members of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Ladies' Guild at flhe home of Mr and Mrs H. W. (L Baird, of Hastings, the afternoon having been arranged as the gift day foi the Presbyterian Orphanages. As the guests arrived they were received by Mrs W. H. Ebbett, the Guild president, and Mrs Baird and then enjoyed wandering about the lovely gardens. { roquet, golf croquet and tennis had' been arranged for those who liked them. After wandering about the members sat round on the Jawn and these enjoyed a most delicious afternoon tea. During the tea interval Mrs Baird haid how pleased s/he was to have the guild members at her home and later Mrs Ebbett, on behalf- of the members thanked^ her for her kindness. The. Rev. D. J. A. Shaw, who was present with Mrs Shaw, also thanhed Mrs Baird for allowing the Guild members to meet in her garden. Mrs 0. Grifiiths, the gulid secretary was also present. After tea Mrs Baird was asked to recite and she said "Preparing for Company," by J. M. Barrie, which was thoroughly enjoyed by her listeners. A most interesting letter was read from Sistre Gladys who made many friends in Hastings while living here. She told about her most enjoyable holi. day in Stewart Island before commeneing her new duties in Auckland. Members we^re very pleased. to" hear what Sister Orladys wrote about her holiday.. " • Before departing the guests had a further opportunity to admiro ihe .garden.
