COMING-OF-AGE PARTY FOR MISS J. ROBERTSON
An air of happiness and xnerriment prevailed at the coming-of-age party given by Mrs. M. Robertson, of Hastings, for her daughter Joan, which was held in the Premier Hall, last evening. •The guests, who n.umbered about 10U, were received by Mrs. . Robertson, who wore a gown of navy blue self-striped matalasse with a jabot at the neck finished with small bright blue buttons matching those at the wrists. The guest of honour wore a charmihg gown of soft sky-blue chiffon with shirring at the waistline and a long sash at the back. The corsage was slightly shirred at the shoulders and softly draped and a spray of shaded pink velvet flowers was worn at the heck in front. A varied prograrnme of dances was onjoyed to music played by Mr. Lew Munro. The supper interval was most jolly, the tables being decorated with a lemo'n and pink colour scheme, with iceland poppies and fern and on the guest-of -honour 's table, pink roses. In the. centre of this table was the large equare birthday cake beautifully ieed in pink and white and decorated with 21 candles. Ail the guests donned pink and lemon paper hats and were in very merry mood. rMr. J. Halligan was the toast master andra number of toasts were honoured, that of the King being followed by one to the guest-of -honour. The most important event of the evening was the presentation of a large gOld key with lepion and pink satin streamers. This was presented by Mr. W. Grifiiths, an old f riend • of the family who, in a happy little speech, congratulated Miss Robertson.' The guest-of -honour replied to the toast and thankcd her motKer and all her friends wjio had made her birthday party so suecessful. Many very beautiful birthday prosents were arranged at the end of the supper room and all were much adinired. As Guy Fawkes ' Day commenced when the clock struck midnight this, was celebrated with fireworks and streamers, balloons and confetti caused mu.ch amusement before the evening was brought to a close. .
