Building construction for the 1939 Golden Gate International Exhibition is moving forward rapidly, with more than a thousand workmen employed in raising a "magic city" on Treasure Island, the unique ,400-acre island which was reclaimed from the shoals in San Francisco Bay. Here is shown the base of the 400ft tower, which will be a prominent landmark. In the background are some of the great buildings which will house the principal displays.
