"SLUMMING" TOUR ROUSES IRE OF U.S. LABOUR

Bedaux announced tv at the Duke of Windsor's investigatic n would occupy 37 days and vill embrace the United States' 15 basic industries, including machinery, oil, chemical, textile, tobaceo, steel, rubber, paper, timber and food. - 1 The Baltimore Federation of Labour, affiliated with the American Federation of Labour, pasted a resolution con* demning the Puke and Duc" ess of Windeor's visit, especiqlly to Baltimore. The federation warned tr^cle- xionists of the "potential threat to free labour and free, democratic government of slumming parties professing to study labour." Speakers denounced the Dujke of Windsor for his German visit and for seeking labour information frqm Herr Hitler. They also asserted that the Duchess, while a native of Baltimore, had not showed the slightest sympathy with the pfoblems of labour or the poor. An attack is also made against the couple's association with Mr Bedaux, w^ho was charged with the : -zthorship of a vicious labour systera. designed to stretch out working hours.
