(Beceived 5, 2.30 p.m.) BAKCELONA, Nov. 4. A running air fight off Mataro followed an attaek from the air on the French merchantman, Corso, which refused to stop when ordered to abandon ship by a • .ree-engined warplane. The plane dived down and bombed and machine-gunned the decks, wounding . some of the crew. The crew sent out an S.O.S. to Barcelona and then took to the boats. Meanwhile, three Government fighters engaged the warplane. One Government machine was shot down. The pilot parachuted to the sea, where he was rescued by fishermen. Two French warships went at full speed frpm Barcelona. but the warplane had been driren off when they reached the Corjo, to which the crew returned. The Corso is now heading for Marseilles.
