CAPSICUM or PEPPERS
Several species of capsicum are cultivated for their seed pods agd are popularly known as Chili-peppers.- In a green state they are used in salads," in pickles and for niaking vinegar. When dried and ground they make a form of c'ayenne pep'per.Seeds should be sown in boxes, or seed pans from OctobOr to Noveniber. earlier sowings may be mad© if set in a hot bed, and when plants are large enough to handle, priek off into.- small pots or shallow boxes. When about six inches high, bed out 18 iiichea in a warm, sUUny spot and kdep well mulched and wafered during the dry weather. The fruit ripens late in the autfimn i and may be kept for three or four years in a *dry spot. The seed when kept in the pod remains gbod for five : years. *
