The new Jeng, xised in conjunction wits the observatory rs 100-inch telescope, is said to be the fastest in the world. It has an optical speed of F/0.59,' whereas the largest aperture in use on the modern high-speed miniatur© camera is E/1.5, a difference of 600 per cent. The light reflected from th'e big 8 l-3rd. foot telescope mirror is concentrated by the new lens into an image only two twenty-fifths of .an inch long. little light reaches the filtn, in taking pictures of the nebnlae ev'on with tho highspeed lens, that an exposuro "as long as • sixty hours in necessary tq take the photograph.
