Mr. La Guardia Again Mayor of New York BITTER ELECTIONS

(Received 4, 8.45 a.m.) NEW YORKf JNor. 2. Mr Fiorello La Guardia was re-elect-ed Mayor by an indicated pluraiity qf 300, Q00. Mr Dewey, who won international ropute by his fight against rackets, was olected New York County District Attorney by a pluraiity of 100,000. Ifc "was one of the most bitter citv elections in recent history, marking the most serious defeat of Tammany- siuco the inception of the Sp-qalled Fqsion Party, led by Mr La Guardia, which was victorious in all the important mun.dpal ofiices. Observers bclieve that Tammany 's power has either been permanently desirbjed or will survive only as a minor o'rganisation, controlling only sraall offices in the borough of Manhattani Other important mqnicipal elections were Detroit, Akron and Canton, where ■ Labour-Bupported candidates were defeated. The committee of lndustrial Organisation badked Mr Patilck O'Brien in Detroit, who urged that Labour should "seize the r eins of government." Mr Bichard Reading, a Democrat was elected. All C.I.O. candidates for the City Councli were defeated. The American Federation of Laboiir and the C.I.O. cbnibined to bark Labour candidates in Ohio cities, but Repnblicans were elected.
