H.B. COUNTY ROADS

Tar-Sealing Work Start* This Month SEVERAL CONTRACTS LET Tar-sealing of main highways ,and other road maintenanco work in the Hawke's Bay County will be in full swing this month when sevenal of the contracts recently let will be commenced. In additidn, approval has also been received from the Public Works Department for;metalling in the northern portion of the county. On the Mangateretere-Te Awanga and the Haumoana Beach main highways, the metalling done in preparation for tar-sealing has now been completed, and is •snffieiently consolidated for the sealing to commence. It is anticipated that the actual tarlscaliiig- will be commeneed ,by the contraetor in about a , fortnight. On the former highway, Mr. F. H. Baston has commenced the conBtruction of two conerete culverts. The successful tenderer for the Waio-hiki-Pakowhai main highway expects to start the tar-sealing at the end of this month, and will then commence work on the sealing of the Te MataTuki Tuki road. Following this, his hexjt two jobs will be the Hastings: Mangateretere and the Napier ParkRissiilgton main highways, when the metalling on these roads has sufficiently consolidated, On the Maraekal/iho-Hc»npden main highway the work of construeting d bridge over the second crossing of the Manga-o-Nuku stream has been pr6ceeding satisfactorily, and is now well up to schedule. A temporary check has been experienced, however, owing to the diffieulty in obtaining steel Approval has been given by the Public Works Department for the metalling of some three-quarters of a miie on Heay's aecess road in the Waikare Riding, and also for the metalling- of approximately two miles of the NapierTaihape ro*d, from the Blowhard to the Iron Gate.
