LAMB OPENS AT 9¾D A LB.
Price Not Yet Officially Announced WEIGHTS ARE LIGHTER Althoiigh not officially announced, it is understood that the schedule at the works for the new season's lamb will open at 9fd per lb. Farmers in general were anticipating that the opening price would be at least lOd per lb. Supplies are coming forward slowly, as farmers are holding on in order to add weight.to their first pick. Many. of the lambs killed so lar average fully three pounds lighter than the early killed lots, last season, This is due to a lacking of inside fat although the lambs, before being killed, have quite a plump appearance. i In anticipation of catching the London Cliristmas season. a shipment of lamb will leave Napier next Monday by the Karamea. Killing operations at the Tomoana and Whakatu freezing works have been in progress all this week and the indiCations are that there wiU be considerably less lambs available this year than was the case last year. The deeline is attributed to the poor conditions prevailing early in the season. The quality of the lambs cotnmg forward, however, is excellent, even though the average weight is only 301bs. as against 3olbs. last year.
