MELBOURNE, Nov. 2. r' There was fina weather and a ! large attendance at Flemington to- ' day. The Trump's sixth successive | victory— his brilliant win the Oup j added to his laurels the most ! coveted trophy of racing in the ' southern Heinisphere. Both the horse and rider received a wonderful ovation from the crowd, which ( unhesitatingiy recognised the culmination of a magniiicent sories of achievements. Ashley Reed's riding was a big factor. He had his mount well placed throughout and took every advantage of the opening on the rails. The Trump is trained by Stan Reid, who, like the jockey, is a former New Zealander. The • owner, Mr E. Eccles, had his iirst win in the Cup, though on two previous occasions he had gained seeond place • with Yarramba and The Cypher. The only other occasion on which one horse has won both the Caulfield and the Melbourne Cups in one season was in 1906, when Poseidon gained both honours. There was a sensation at the start, gir Regent being left half a furlong. Willie Win was responsible for a great effort and looked like the winner until The Trump put in an overpowering run. Sarcherie, who 'waB second to Petei Pan in 1934 and second to Marabou in 1935, again had'to be content with a minor pla'eing. Sarcherie led into the straight and battled on well. Allunga finished itrongly in fourth place. Wotan, Maia] " International and Jack Horner were aever dangerous. Hua was "well placed ; -r fchroughout but tired in the run home. The attendance was 98,000, compared with 102,000 last year. The to^alisatoi handled £125,717 10s, which . was a retfortk Elliot, the rider of Hua, was suspended for a month for; crossing tdo soon > after the start. Twenty-eight started. Hua was the first leader, but Tapestry. inade the bulk of the pace from Hua, Royal Step, Silver Standard, John Wilkes, Maia, Willie Win and The Trump. Hua took command at the halfmile and led at the turn from Tapestry, Sarcherie, Silver Standard, Royal Step, John Wilkes, Willie Win, Balkan Prihce and The Trump. Sarcherie was first' into -the straight and was immediately headed by Willie Win. The Trump got clear at the half furlong and fihished brilliantly. After Sarcherie came Allunga, D'onaster, Gay Knight, Silver Standard and Wotan, with Sir Regent last. The Trump's timo was only a quarterj of a second outside Wotan 's Austral-j asian record. j
