CENTRAL CROQUET CLUB ENTERTAIN VISITORS
An atmosphere of friendliness aud happiness prevailed at the Hastings Central Croquet Club's greens yesterday afternoon when members of the club entertained repreisentatives from the sister clubs "in Hastings and Na^pier. The weather was ideal for the party, and the greens were in perfeot order. The seats were beautifully shaded with an overhead trellis covered with virginian creeper and wistal'ia, and this shade was much appreciated by the onlookers. Mrs W. Bridgman, the club president, extended a welcoine to all the visitors present and also expressed pleasure at seeing again\so many of the members who belonged to the Central Croquet Club at the time before the greens were closed for several years. She mentioned eepecialTy Mrs T. J. Thompson and Mrs Garnett/ snr., who have been connected with the club for very many years and she presented to each a charming posy.
Mrs I. Crichton, tho club captain, presented a pretty posy to the president, Mrs Bridgman. The afternoon was most happily Ispent with varlous competitions of which the winners were; Clock gqlf, Mrs Bayliffe (Napier); trail, Mrs Morris (Napier); take-off, Mrs Fv Tonliin (Hastings), roulettej Mrs Dadson (Napier); ,go!f croquet, Mrs Watkins (Hastings) ; angles, Mrs F. Lee (Napier). The prizes were presented by Mrs Bridgman. During the* afternoon n veay delicious afternoon tea, arranged by Mrs (T. B. Bickering, was enjoyed by every one. The long tabfes in the pavillion were very colourfully decorated with large * bowls of iceland poppies and bowls of ranunculus in the same shades. Mrs T. J. Thompson had presented an iced cake for afternoon tea and this was cut by Mrs I. Crichton. When thanking Mrs Thompson the members ramarked jovially that they hoped she would be 'spared to make many -more such delioious cakes. Nicoll and Maher, from Pioneer; Mesdames F. Tonkin, Esson, Sievyer, A. Watkins and Bennett, from the Hastings club ; Mesdames Poole and McLeay from the Port; and from the Central Club: Mrs T. J. Thomson (patroness), Mrs W. Bridgman (president), Mrs Lowe (vicet-president) , Mrs I. Crichton (captain), Mrs Bose (vicecaptain), Mrs W. Duff (secretary), Mrs. J. B.
