FIRE-FIGHTERS COMPETE

Annual Demonstration Held j at Tomoana SERVICE H0N011RS PRESENTED The annaul fire brigades ' demonstration, held under the auspices of the Hastings, Napier and Wairoa Fire Boards was held at Tomoana on Saturday lafternoonj. Representatives were present from eight brigades throughout the districts and ideal conditions preyailed. - The fixture was held on the grounds loaned for the -occasion by Nelsons' Ltd, and the Tomoana brigade were congratulated on all sides by the visitors on having such beautiful grounds for their demonstrations and practices. During the afternoon the presentation of service houors gained by members of the Tomoana brigade were presented by Mr W. Keith, a member of the Hast•ings Fire Board, and former superintendent of the Hastings brigade as well as past president of .the TJnited Fire Brigades' Association. _ The Tesults pf the demonstration are as follow: — . > One-man event, for Camel Cup, presented by Mr R. Barron on behalf of A. R. Hislop and Co. Ltd., Wellington. —Napier B 47 2-5 secs 1, Hastings A 49 secs 2, Spit B 51 1-5 secs 3. Two-man event, for Hastings Fire Brigade Cup. — Hastings A 39 4-5 secs 1, Napier A 41 4-5 secs 2, Spit A 43 4-5 secs 3. Three-men event, for Havelock North Fire Brigade Cup. — Spit A 35 3-5 secs 1, Hastings A 36 secs 2, Wairoa A and Tomoana A 37 2-5 secs equal 3. Four-aien motor event, for challengo shield. — Hastings 47 1-5 ^ secs 1, .Tomoana 42 1-5 secs 2, Napier 57 4-5 secs 3. Following the demonstration a welcome afternoon-tea was provided by the ladies committee under the supervision of Mrs E. F. Donpvan. The following are the recipients of service awards as members of the Tomoana brigade, all being given certificates and medal. Where bars were given, the fact is noted: — Superinten- • dent D. J. McKay, 3 bars; Deputy-Su-perintendent J. C. Timms, 4 bars; Foreman E. F. Donovan, 4 bars; Secretary E. M. Doree, 4 bars; Foreman W. B. Shields, 3 bars; Foreman J. C. Currie; Fireman J. J. Seed, 1 bar; .Fireman F. L. Duigan, 1 bar; Fireman J. Dawson. 1 bar.
