(By Telegraph-
AUCKLAND, This Day. A statement that it was .the intention of Japanese manufacturers to purcbase abou' 100,000 bales of wool frcm New Zealand his season was made by Mr T. Asakawa, a passanger on tlie Niagara from Sydney. He is uhe liepd of the wool department of a firm wliich has a.capital of £12,000,000. *He saiii that prices had been rising in Japan owing to the higher cost of materials and, although jfchero had beein no ( change in labour costs in textile and other factories, it might be difficult to maintain the volume of production which had been reached in recent years. He estimated the recent rise in the price of cotton, artificial silk and woollen yarns at ahout 10 por cent. "I think that the striiggle with China will have a big effect on Japan's exports because Cbina in the past has been a large purchaser of our mahafactures." Mr Asakawa intends to investigate the prospects for the comlng season in ^New Zealand. ■ — — — n
