INNER WHEEL MEMBERS CELEBRATE BIRTRDAY
Bowls of lovely rosea and vases of bright lceland poppies decorated the Silver Slipper Cabaret, Napier, when wives of the Napier Rotarions celebrated th-e iirst birthday of their club — the Inner Wheel. The front of the stage was massed with tulips and spring flowers and from here Miss Betty Oooper 's orchestra played the dance music. Graceful palms and colourful balloons along the vvalls gave a festive air to the cabaret. Mrs J. H. Edmundson, the acting-pre-sident, who wore a gown of blaclt flo'ral chiffon with a corsage spray of scarlet and gold flowers, reeeived the guests and welcomed all present, especiall'y the many Hastings Rotarians and their wives. Telcgrams of birthday greetings from absent members were read and then several musical items were given, the first being The Inner Wheel song by members of the club. Mesdames W. Harvey, R. Hockery A. Hobson and iladame Russell delighted their listeners with items, all being recalled. Two little girls, Jocylyn King and Patricia Nelson, dressed in period costume, danced a minuet and reeeived great appiause each being presented with a box of chocolates. During the evening the large birthday cake was wheeled round the room, everyone donning fancy paper hats and following, while the orchestra played a grand nlarch. This caused much nierrunent, and everyone reeeived a piece of the cake which was cut by the bachelor rotarian, Mr M. S. Spenee.
