'» llf 4' National Service Club Opens Season RESULTS OF PLAY The openlng of the National Service JBowlihg Club's season took place on Satuiday afternoon, when a large gutkering of bowlers wa§ present frdni all parts of the district. The clubs 3-epreSented were Palmerston North, Pahiatua, Dannevirke, Waikaremoana, Wairoa, Kia Toa, Havelock, H.B. Centro and Port Ahuriri. Mr E. L. dullen, M.P., a mernber of the club; in openjng the green, welcomed the guests and sketched a brief history of the gome of bowls from the time of Drake, Be hoped that all pfeseut would have an enjoyable afternoon on the green, which wag ih excellent order. A sinai] presentation was mad© to Mr J, P Smith, in appreciation of his seryices to the club. AJrs Sloan rolled up the first bowl and iilr (julien then dcclared the green open for the season. A splendid afternoon" tea was supplied by the ladies. Eollowing the usual custom of the opening of the green a dinner and smoke concert was given to the visit-r ing bowlers and friends and was beld in the OddfelloWs, Hall. Dinner wa? served in the supper room and the concert in the njaih hall. Mr J. Sloan was chairman and Klr Le Compte was stage manager. The following contributed items during the evening: — Orchestra, conducted by Mr Lord ; hu. mour, Messrs Dean and Hardenburg; instrumental items, Messrs Meier, Mulvanah, Robertson, Cottle, Warren and E. Smith; songs, Messrs Stevenson, Naylor, Dockary and Webley. havelock north club Tio glorious weather on - SUturday attracted a good muster of . howlers to the- Havelock North green, and very enjoyable games1 were played. The draw for the club competitions bas been n\ade, and members are requested to get their games off as quickly as possible.
