JMr H. Guthrie-Smith, Tutira, Hawke's Bay, is visiting the South Island. v Mr J. M. Downip, circuit manager for Amalgamated Theatres L-imited, is visiting Hawke's Bay. Mr L. G. Ashton, editor of the Primary Producer, Australia, is at present visiting Wellington. The Rev. J. M. Btaufort, M.A., lately joint headmaster of St. Peter's School, Cambridge, in the Waikato, has been appointed vicar of Shawbury, Salop. The patron of the living iB Sir Gerald Co'rbet. Mr E. L. Cullen. M.P., returned to Hastings from Wellington last night and leaves to-morrow for Wairoa to confer with the Mayor, M/ H. L, Harker, regarding the Government liousing scheme. He returns to Wellington on Tuepday. The board oi Directors of the Wellington Y.M.C.A. has appointed Mr victor 0. Jones, of Perth, Westem Australia, and lately of Honolulu, as general secretary in succession to Mr Greenberg. Mr and Mrs Jones arrive in DecembQr Oonstable Tucker, who has been sta^ tioned at Napier for the past 10 years and who has been transferred to Wairoa; was tarewelled by membVs of the Napier and Fort Aiiuriri police on Thursday, when Inspector J. Fitzpatrick presented Constable Tucker with a sjlver tea-service. Mr Justico Ostler, who has been presiding at .the quarterly session ot' the Suprtme Court at Napier, will leave duriug the week-end by private car for Gisborne, where ho will presido over the Supreme Court sessions. It is anticipated that the business at Gisoorne wiU occupy a week,. and His Honour will return then to complete the sessions at Napier. Mr lan Buir, B.^c., Wanganui, a former pupil of the Wanganui Technicai College has been awarded .the Duttus Lubecki iteseaich Scholarship for 1937, at the University of Otago. This scholarship is for students in pure science, medicine, dentistry or mining. Mr Burr won a senior scholarship last year iu geology. Mr W. A. Hislop, general manager of the Univers.ai h'iim Manufacturiug Uo., Ltd., was eiected president of the Filui Exchanges Association of N.ew Zealand (Inc.;, at the annual meeting Mr. G. M. Diilon, general manager of W' arner Bxos., First National Fictures, Md. and Mr W. W. Duff, general manager of R.K.O. Radio Pictures, Ltd., were elec.ted vice-presidents, Mr 0. C. Johansen, who has been a member of the Masterton Borough Council staif for the past II years, has resigned to take up a position with the Public Works Department at Napier. Mr Johansen is a niember of the Masterton Savage Cliib, the Amateur Theatrical Society, the Mahunga- Golf Club} and is also a heutenant in the territorials, Mr Oharles M. Bennett, B.A., aon of the Bishop of Ao-tea-roa, and at i present teaching at the Mangateretere School, has received notification of his appointment as an announcer .with the National Broadcasting Service. He leaves for Wellington towkrds the end of November, where he commenceB his duties on December 1. Sir Apirana Ngata, accompanied by Lady Ngata, will arrive in Hastings | on Monday by the Wellington express. On Monday night Sir Apirana is to address the Hastings Historical Society. While in Hastings they will be the guests of the Rt. Rev. F. A. Bennett, Bishop of Aotearoa} Und Mrs Ben- , nett, at- Kohupatiki.
