Duff-Cooper, that 89,000 refugees had been evacuated from Northern Spain under the protection of British warships has caused an outcry in the German Press, Which is beginning to adopt an anti. English tone. The Borsen Zeitung says: ' 'Englisli humanity appears in a very curious liglit when eriwiinals find asylum iq,' British warships, Germany has the right to ask England whether sbe inteuds to guarautee Bolshovist criminals freedom from pumshmeot." According to a Paris message, the Frenoh Governmen.t has strongly protested to the Spanish authorities at Valencia and Salamanca against attacks on French ships and aircraft, and has asked both sides for guarantees of the safety of French ships and planes. The Admiralty has decided to station a warship at Minorca in order to protect French planes and ships. Insurgent planes to-day bombed Port Bou, to the north of Barcelona and only a few miles south of the French frontier, for the 24th time. One plane repeatedly flew over Frencb territory. Shrapnel from the Eepublican anti. aircraft guns fell in Corbere, causing panic among tho inhabitants.
