INSTRUMENTAL GROUP OF B.M.S. MEETS

The instrumental gorup of the British Music Society enjoyed a delightful evening on -Tuesday at the house of Mrs. D. McLeod, McLean street, Havelock North, when compositions by Mendelssohn were played .by members, variation being given by violin solos from a modern English composer's work and articles read on subjects 6f musical interest. Some of these described famous bells of the world and how they are made to sound different pitch, an interesting theory of harmonics being discussed. Other articles coneerned the harp and the violin. A short sketeh of Mendelssohn 's life having been read by Miss Gooch, the following musical programme was given: Pianoforte. — Mrs. Blair and Miss A. Lock (duet), Symphony cantata; Miss N.
