CHORAL WEDDING AT ST. MATTHEW'S CHURCH

APPERLEY— HOLMES

A very pretty choral wedding waB solemnised last evening at St. Matthew's Church, Hastings, when Elsie Florence, only daughter of Mr. and Mr&. E. Holmes, Lascelles street, Hastings, was married to Alfred William, eldest son of Mr. and Mr. W. Apperley, also of Hastings. Canon MortimerJones officiated at the ceremony and Mr. O. B. Spinney presided at the orgau. As both the bride and bridegroom were membera of St. Matthew'e choir the full choir was present. The hymns chosen were "The Voic© Tha# Breathed G'er Eden" and "O Perfect Love." The choir also sang an anthem "Come Holy Ghost," the solo being taken by William Tucker, a member of the boys choir. The bride' s lovely gown was fashioned of very deep cream satin charmeiaine on simple lines with a very long train. The corsage was shaped onto the skirt in an oval, with a satin belt and covered buekle at the back, while at the neckline was an exquisitely hand-fogotted yoke, with satin-covered buttons at the back. The long sleeves were slightly gathered at the slioulders and were pointed over the hands witb tiny buttons. She wore a veil of deep cream "Chantilly lace arranged with a double fow of orange blossom backed with a halo of pleated stiffened net, and carried a shower bouquet of^cream and- pale pink flowers and maidenhair fern Which had been made by Mrs. W. ; Aj .Bi'yanfc ! Charming gowns of pale japonica • pink georgette were worn by the two ; bridesmaids who were the Misses Lucy Tucker (cliief), and Ruby Apperley, ■ sistpr of the bridegroom. Their gowns were fasliioned alike with short sleeves 'in a new puffed shape with rucking up the centre and stand-up effect at tlxe shoulders and the higk neckline was also the finished with rucking and a small roll collar. An inset panel in the back of the skirt was rucked at tho waist which was finished at the back with a georgette belt and covered buckle. Each maid wore silver shoes and a silver Juliet cap with tiny blue and pink fiowers and carried a shower bouqUet of pink gerberas, carnations, ranunculus and sweet peas with ferns and pink streamers. The bridegroom' s gifts to the bridesmaids were crystal vases. The best man was' .Mr. Richard Warwjick and the groomsman Mr. Noel Cohen. Mi'. E. Holmes gave his daughter away. The wedding reception, which was a very jolly one, was held at the Ritz tearooms where the tables were deeorated with llowers in pink shades. The two-tiered Square wedding cake was iced in deep cream with silver favours. The guests were received by Mr. and Mrs. Holmes, the latter weaving a gown Of black and white floWered silk with fagotted front, a plain black coat and black hat trimmed with black and white flowets . She carried a bouquet of red fiowers, Mrs. W. Apperley, the bridegroom's mother, wore a gown of navy silk with a gold. paisley design, with a navy hat and she carried a bouquet of golden tinted flowersk YVhen the bride and bridegroom left for their honeymoon which is to be spent in Auckland, the bride travelled in a model frock of gentian blue silk with sprays of white flowers. Tiny inset piu-tucked panels from the neck trimmed the corsage and the full sleeves were gathered into narrow cuffs. She wore a plain blue tailored coat, navy liat with ligkter blue flowers, navy accesseries and black fox fur. Among ihe many beautiful wedding pteseiits were two presentationa to the bride who was a member of the staff of Messrs. Bairds, an eiectrio toastet from the staff and a gift of linen from Mr. H. W. C. Baird. The bridegroom is a member of the staff of Nelsons Ltd., * and was prcsented with a canteen of cutlery. St. Mattkew's choir presented an eiectrio iron to the bride and bridegroom.
