Evidence of Enthusiasm for Coming Season

WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. All members were present at the annual meeting of the Hatuma Oricket Club, a fact that should indicate a successful season, for-it gives evidence of enthusiasm. Mr A. Wilson was in the chair. In his annual repoi*t the secretary stated that the past season had heen inost satisiactory socialiy and finanoiaily. The financial position of the cluh was sound. Iteference was made to the splendid support given by the pafcron. Mr P, F. Wall, the president, Mr John Wilson, the vice-presideijts, Messrs H. S. Hooper, J.. Howard and W. Matthews, and also Messrs G. E. Merrikin, D. M. H. Ormsby, A. Ferguson and Culling Bros. and Misses J. Wilson, E. Wilson and K. Riddle. for their help with afternoon teas and lunches. The club was indebted to the president for the use . of his grounds, and thanks were expressed to Mr C. R. Watson for his services as honorary auditor and to the Press. Trophies had been won as follows : — Patron s bat for the highest score, C. Knight (103) ; vice-president's bat for best batting average, M. Walsh 123) ; Mr F. Howard's trophy for the dhi'o improi J player in all departments ; 1j. Chapmun ; Messrs Culling Bros' tr^iphy ft)r player taking most catches, L. Chapman (17). Huring the season 98 catches had been taken in 14 matclies, mdicatmg •the high quality of tlie fielding. Runs 6cored totalled 2183 and 148 wickets had l'allen, the hatsmen having averaged 14.6 runs. The runs sQored against the club amounted to 2382 and 181 wickets had heen taken in the process, giving an average of 13.2 runs per wicket. The following eight players had a batting average of double figures: M. Walsh (23.3), C. Wright (21.4), F. Culling (20.5), G. Wyatt (19.8), C. Wilson (18.4), W. Matthews (16.6), J. Saxton (14.7) and A. Wilson (11.09). The following officers were elected Patron, Mr P. F. Wall; president, Mr •Ijlin Wil on; vice-prcsidents, Messrs J. Howard, H. S. Hooper, W. Matthews, I. W. N. A'ackie and A. Fesv guson; hon auditor, Mr C'. R. Watson ; hon. seereiary-treasurer, Mr F. Culling; captain, Mr M. Walsh; vicecaptain, Mr G. Wyatt; official scorer, Mr Earl Brunton ; management committee, Messrs A. Wilson, C. Wilson, W. Matthews, F. Sainsbury, 31. Walsh, 1). F. Baiubridge and F. Culling. Trophies have been donated by Mrs 1..W. N. 3Jfiokie and Mr H. S. Hooper for rompetition in the coming season. The chainnan presented the trophies jvon last season, and he presented, on behalf of members, an inseribed propolling pincil to the official scorer, 3Ir E, Brqpton, The club decided to use health stamps for its correspondence.
