SENT TO PRISON
Motorist on Charge of Intoxication AUCKLAND, Last Night. A sentence of xuiie months' imprisonment with hard labour was passed on Frederick Nicholas Lindholm, an electriciau, by Mr. Justice Cajlau in the Supreme Court, and he was also prohibited from obtainiug a motor-driver'a iiceuce for five years. Lindholm was tound guilty lagfc week of negligently drivmg a motor-ear so as to cause the death of Mrs. Ivy Cavenett on May 9, when a motor-ear he was driviug coilided with a tramcar just after midnight, aud Mrs. Cavenett, a passenger jn Lindbolm's car, was tlirown out and djed from injuries. Tlie jury added a recommendation to mercy. His Honour said that in September, 1936, prisoner was conviotetl of being mtoxicated in charge of a motor-cycle, fincd £5 and his driver's hcence cancelled for one year. There were also eleven previous conviqtions of various kinds against the prisoner, ^ "My duty is clear," said the Judge, "I am sorry for his parents wliom he said he is supporting. This is not a case where a fine would meet the needs of justice."
