ROAD-SURFACING WORK

Hastings Council to Start Operations Preliminary steps involved in the road-surfacing work to be carried out by the Hastings Borough Coi | cil this year are now being taken with a view to commencing the work within the next few days-. Som# 340 chains or more of roading is to be perinanently sealed, according to the schedule of works for the current year. There has been a departure from procedure this year in that the work is being done under Government subsidy, involving the employment of relief labour, and not by contract, as was the case last year. At the present time officials of the works department are selecting the gang of men required for the work, and it is expected that about 15 or 16 men will be employed for the next few months.
