U.S. LABOUR LEADERSHIP

Mr. J. L. Lewis's Terms "ENTIRELY UNACCEPTABLE" KEW YOEK, Oct. 26. At the conference of the Committee for Industrial Organisation and the American Federation of Labour, Mr. J. L. Lewis announced the terms of the Committee for Industrial Organisation for reconciliation. They were: The organisation of mass production, the marine and public utility services, and the basic.fabricating industries on an industrial union basis. The Committee for Industrial Organisation, with all its present affiliates, shall join the American Federation of Labour as an independent department, retaining its present narne. Ohservers consider that the terms, if ac^epted, will result in inevitable domination of the federation by Mr. Lewis. The New York Times Washington correSpondent says the American Federation of Labour did not issue a statement concerning the proposals, but adds: "They are entirely unacceptable." Later: The American Federation of Labour, in its counter-proposals, demanded the immediate dissolution of the O.I.O. in order to establish "one united and solidified Labour JMovenient in America." 1
