MONTAGUE ACQUITTED
(Received 28, 8.45 a.m.) NEW YORK, Oct. 26. Flushed, angry, and shouting, John Montague from the witness stand, denied robbery, when giving evidence on i]he eharge against liim of robbery at a xoadhouse. Montague is a professional triek golfer. He gxplained that his disappearance was due to sbame at finding his belongings in the robber's car. He admitted participating in rum-running, commission of an earlier misdemeanour, and once paying a frne of five dollara for cherry-st ealing. Depositions from Bing Crosby, Guy Eabbce, Oliver Hardy? and other cinema actors as to Montague's honesty, peacefulness, and love of quict were read, and the case* wr.s sent on to $be i»ryi Montagin' was acquitied. The Juilge told the jury he was sorry to sav the verdict was not in aceordanee with what he thought they sbould have rendered. f " 1 4
