FEARS FOR STATION
New Hastings Railway Centre WONDERING RESIDENTS ' ( Aren't we going to get a new station after all?" This and other similar commeiit passed at the Hastings railway station this moruiug waa prompted by several piles of .sand and a number .of barrels of tar lying on the platform, the obVious inference being that some tarsealing operations were to be carried out almost immediately. Tfie matter was referred to Mr J. P. Gassidy, stationmaster, and he scouted the xdea that there wds any significanee to be attaclied to the work uow in hdnd as regards .the major proposed wcrk of eetting up a new railway station. He explaiued tbat it was proposed merely to ' * top-dress ' ' the asphalt platform, a procedure that was adopted every year about this time. "All I know regarding the now station is that tlie department is still preparing plans i'or consideration," ne said.
