SEASON ENDS
Hastings Golf Club's TrophyWinners PRESENTATION OF PRIZES The Hastings Golf Club eelebrated the end of the offieiai season with a field day on the club 's links pn Labour. Day. In the morning a family match. Canadian foursome, open to any two meiabers of one family as partners, a fourball bogey for men and a foitr-ball bogey for ladies were played, whilsfc in. the afternoon a mixed Canadian foursome was set down for -competition. Despite the atrocious weather condi* tions a good field contested all the evente. The annual distribution of prizes was made in the evening, Dr. E. Cashmore presiding, and Mrs Cashmore graciously presenting the winners of the vartoua competitions with the trophies won by each. A dance in the clubhouse pavilion followed and was kept going until the small hours of the morning by an en-? thusiastic crowd of dancers. Dr. Cashmore, vice-pr^sident of the club, in addressing the assembled golfers prior to the presentation, apologised for the unavoidable absenco of the president, Mr F, P. Kelly. He congratulatqd the club on the good course that had been provided, despite the unfavourable drought. conditions which had prevailed over the first half of the playing season. The watering system for the greens had proved & huge success and had amply repaid the club - for the expenditure involved, by • the greatly improved putting areas tnat members had enjoyed. in their play thToughout the year. The club was in a .sound financial position which must be a source of gratification to members generally and quite justified the increase in their subscriptions. It had rendered possible the writing-ofi of a substantial amount from the watering scheme fund besides meetiug the large additional expenditure involved in the bunkering scaeme and other improvements which had beea a charge upon revenue alclne, Members would be pleased — some possibly not — to know that further bunkering work would be carried out during the summer fecess. Dr. Cash-i more xegretted that due to death the club had lost three valuable and esteemed members in Messrs Cecil Duff, B. H. Edridge and E. G. Wells. They could ill-afford to lose men of their quality either as sportsmen or citizens On behalf of the club he especially thanked Mr E. L. McNiven, secretary% and Mr H. H. Edwards, the honorary greens superintendent, for the manner in' which they' had carried out their onerous .duties and regretted that), owing to Mr Edwards' intention of ro-* turning to England, they would lose his valuable services nest year. Eor the satisfaction they had given in their work on the course and in the clubhouse he thanked Mr and Mrs H. Wall. Thanks were also due to Mr Lambie, the club professional, for tha interest he had shown in club aftairs outside his professional duties. There were others also who had a&sisted in many and divers ways to help the esecutive officers. To them and to those who had do'nated trophies for competition he extended the appret ciation of the club for their co-operatioii in the good work of carrying on.
