Conditions were ideal at both • Hastings, where two games were played, aad at Napier, but while a tall score was made at Napier by Teclmical Old Boys against United, there was low scoring in both the matches at* Hastings. Hastings have secured a lead of 42 runs on the first innings in their gamo with Eugby, while Napier H.S.O.B. were just successful in passing by eight. runa tbe aggregate of Hastings H.S.O.B. . Tbe second series of games m the Hastings junior grade competition was notable for several splendid individual performances. Tbe outstanding batting effort was tbat of W. Wbitebead (Havelock North) who compiled tbe first century of tbe season, making 102. Otber good scores with tbe ball were tbose of S. Geake (Fruitworkers) 66, Scott (Eugby) 56, Lowe (Mahora) 54, S. Carrington (Mahora) 50. Tbe most remarkable bowling performance of tbe Beries was tbat of Carrington (Mahora) wbo took 12 wickets for 43 runs in tbe xnatch, taking seven for 14 and five for 29 against Hastings; while of almost equal merit that of McGregor (Whakatu) wbo took 11 wickets in tbe game, taking six for 19 and five for 23. There was also a century scored in Napier Junior A .division, Moss, of Scinde, making 116 against Harbour Board, wbile in tbe same game Dowrick compiled 93. Tbe best bowling efforts were those of Stanford (Taradale) wbo took seven wickets for 20 Tuns, and Kennelley (Ahuriri) wbo took four wickets for five runs off eigbt balls.
