WELLINGTON, Last Night. | The breaking of five New Zealand: •and three Australasian records mado specially notable the third annual amateur championships of the New Zealand Weight Lifting Association on Saturday night. More than thirty conipetitors took part in the programiue, which lasted four hours. All the new records established will be officially recognised throughout the world. H. Cleghorn (Auckland) won the heavyweight championship in each threo lifts, breaking the Australasian , record formerly established by himaelf. ,His peTformances were as follow, prejvious records being in parentheses: — (Two hands military press 2201bs. (215), rtwo hands snatch 2301bs. (225), two hands clean jerk 305Jlbs. (303 J). L. Hogan (Auckland), the only New Zealander to hold the official world's records at weight-lifting, won the middleweight championship and also broke his own New Zealand middloweight records for the two hands military press and the two hands snatch with I75flbs. and 190$lbs. respectively. A. Angrove (Napier) won the lightweight championship, taking the Anderton challenge shield from last year's Winner, M. Darby (Wanganui). Angrove also broke the New Zealand lightweight record for two hands clcau jerk with 226§lbs., his previous record being 2231bs. A. Dick (Wellington) won the featherweight championship with 143 lbs., defeating E. Askew (Auckland), who recently won the Australasian junior featherweight title. Askew broke the featherweight record for the two hands snatch with loO^lbs. L. Harris (Napier), holder of several New Zealand records, took the liglitheavyweight title, defeating H. K. Young (Auckland), junior provincial champion. . ...
