CARS COLLIDE

Four Accidents in Hastings Over Week-end Conditions for vehicular traffie were far from being of the best during the holiday week-end, the road surfaces being slippery and visibility poor owing to the wet weather. However,it was not until mid-afternoon yesterday that the first motor accident was reported to the Hastings police, but during the following five hours a further two accidents oceurred. Fortunately xione wero of a serious nature and noone was injured except to a minor degree. The first of the accidents oceurred at the intersection of St. Aubyn street aua Miller street ahout 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon when a lorry, driven hy Mr George T. HaTvey, of Riverslea road, and a baby car driven by Allen E. HaTt, of Princess street, coilided. The cai was hadly smashed and a passenger. A. HaTt, eenr., father of the driver, xeceived minor injuries and cuts to the head, but not of such a nature as to require medical attention. Shortly after 7 o'clock two cars, (driven by Phillip E. Butler, taxi-driver, of Karamu road, and Mahel E. Marshall, of Avenue xoad. respectively, coilided at the corner of Heretaunga and Hastings streets. Both vehicles were dented and damaged but no-one was injured in any way. Ahout 30 minutes later there was a third accident at the intersection of Heretaunga and Stortford streets where cars driven by Joy McCormiek, of Kereru, and Wallace Mitchell, of Southland road, respectively, coilided. Again the damage was not very heavy to •ither vehicle and no-one was injured. A fourth accident was recorded thortly after 8 o'clock this morning when two caTs coilided near the interBection of Karamu road and Aventie road, the drivers being Thomas Nai»bitt, taxi-driver, of Heretaunga street^ and Garren Koorey, of Hastings, respectively. Except that one of -the vehicles was swung right across the road after the impact, no great damago was done to either car, though both were badly dented. No-one was injured.
