Minister's Reply to The Manufacturers

CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. "The importation of footwear for the period that has gone this year is substantially less than in the corresponding periods in normal years in the past and the number of men employed in the industry in the Dominion is considerably increased even after allowing for the number of men that have to be put off," said the Minister of Industries and Commerce, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, wlien asked whether he had any comment to make on complaints that had recently been made by manufacturers on tbe present state of the footwear industry in New Zealand. Mr. Sullivan added that all he could say was that the recent statement by the Prime Minister would he put into effect.
