Mr E. L. Cullen, M.P.# who was in Hastings during the" week-end, returned to Wellington last evening. Mr. G. A. Maddisonj Mayor of Hastings, jvho has been visiting Wellington, returned home during the week-end. Mr J. R. Seton, who recently underwent an operation in the* Hastings Memorial Hospital, is making good progress towarde recovery. The Rev. C. H. Olds, B.A., is to be invited to supply the vacancy in the Hastings Methodist Church cireuit which will take place in April, 1938. Major E. M. Mackersey of Te Kuiti, has been appointed to take cogimand of tlie support company of the composite battalion comprising the Waikato, Hauraki, and North Auckland regiments. Mr H. E. Tlioinas, resident inspector in Napier of the Royal Exchange Assurance, has received notice of transfer to Wellington and leaves Napier at the end of this month. His successor will be Mr N. N. Breen^ of the Wellington office. Mr M. McG. Cooper, New Zealand Rhodes scholar, formerly of Havelock North, who has been visiting Hastings, left yesterday for Wellington to take up duty with the Department of Scientific and Industriai Research. He was accompanied by Mrs .Cooper. Dr. W. W. Main, radiologist at the Auckland Hospital, has resigned his position. Eulogistic references to his services were made by the chairman, the Rev. W. C. Wood, at last week's meeting of the board when the resignation was accepted with regret. Dr. Margaret Christie has been appointed senior house surgeop. at Cook Hospital, her appointment to date froin January 19, 1938. The hospital is to have the services of Dr. J. Dovi as temporary house-surgeon from January 1 to January 18, the board having accepted his application for that period to fill a gap between the departure of one permanent appointee and the arrival of another. Mr A. H. Ihle, District Publio Trustee, Greymouth, and formerly of Napier, will succeed Mr Lipscombe as First Assistant-District Public Trustee, Christchurch. He joined the stafif of the Public Trust Office at Hawera in July, 1915, and was appointed Assistant-Dis-trict Public Trustee at Napier in December, 1927, and Assistant-District Public Trustee, Gisborne, in March, 1930. Mr Ihle, who is a qualified solicitor, has been District Public Trustee at Greymouth since October, 1934.
