All kindred club members are invited to the official opening of the Cornwall Fark Lawn Tennis Club, on Labour Day, when a Yankee toumament will be staged. A matinee of dancing, in aid of the H.B. Children 's Homes, will be presented ,by the pupils of Miss Je'an Ballantyne, in the Municipal ThOatre on Thursday- afternoon, November 4, at 3.30. A reminder is given of the united Christian eonference to be held in the Asseinbly Hall on Monday, October 25, (Labour Day). The meetings, will commence in the morning at 10—12.30, afternoon 2.30 — 4.30, evenicg 7 — 9. Manchester Unity Oddfellows are notified that the Hastings Lodge will meet at the Oddfellows' Hall on . Tuesday next, at 7 o'clock. Only urgent business will be dealt with and afterwards visitors from sister lodges and friends of members will be enter tained.

For lovers of dancing, both old-tirae and modern, an enjoyable evening has been arranged for Monday as - a finale to Labour Day celebrations, For the benefit of Hastings patrons a special bus will leave there at 7.30 direct to the Excelsior Hall, Napier, returning after the dance finishes. To cater for tennis piayers on Labonr Day( the Hawke's Bay Lawn Tennis Club will hold another Yankee tourna- | ment at its conrts at Marewa, Napier, | commeneing at 2 p.m. The entrance feo j will be 2/6, and the club will provide | afternoon tea. A trophy , will be pre- • sented to the winning lady and to Ihe ' winning gentleman. Members of the Hastings Women's Community Club and other organisations are asked to note that a bridge party, in aid of the Red Cross Far East Relief Fund, will be held on Monday afternoon, November 1, at 2 ]),m. Mrs T. H. Lowry, president of the club, will be hostess at afternoon tea and anyone i desirous of helping the cause is invited j to be present.
