THE CAULFIELD CUP
Sir Regent Was the Unlucky Horse talking out for good (Received 21, 8.45 a.m.) SYDNEY, Oct. 21. The Sydney Morning Herald's Melbourne correspondent, commenting on tlie Melbourne Cup, says: ^Although The Trump had a wide barrier position, he was gradually taken in and from the mile post had a good passage. "Sir Ilegenb made an extraordinary run, as near the half-mile there were only three or four horses behind him, one of thera being Flood Tide, buf at the top of the straight he was passing horse after. horse, The Trump seemed likely to win comfortably as he reached the lead, but Sir Regent made a spurt tliat brought him level. In the jast strides, however^ The Trump stayed on bettei than Sir Regent and beat him off. "Silver Standard had every chance but weakened in the last 50 yards. Manolive hung on well to finish fifth, but his performance was nqt aa impressive as that of Flood Tide, who was among the stragglers little mor© than a mile from the post. Then he got going, and to finish sixth, even allowing for the number of tired horses he passed, was no mean performance." Th© Herald says thqt Talking will never race again and wiU enter the long and tedious treatment neeessary to mend his injury with u view to a stud career. The Daily Telegrapb's , Melbourne correspondent says: "Sir Regent must be cousidered the unlucky horse of the Caulfield Cup. He was left three lengths at the start and later met with two checks," . .
