Murray in the fitial round of the New Zealand open golf championship upon the correctness of the decision given and the sevefity of tho penalty imposed. At the timh it was stated that the committee of the Hamilton Golf Club was guided by a ruling on an analogous case given by the Eoyal and Ancifent Club of St, Andrews in response to an inquiry from Berlin. A situation practically ideutical with what occurred at Hamilton was ouce put before the rules of golf committee of the United States Golf Assqciation from Honolulu, accofding to Mr. Ricbard S. Francis in. hi3 bbok 4 'Golf-— Its Rules and Decisions." The following point was submitted, having arisen during the islaqd tournament. "During a qualifying round for the island championship the player elosest to the hole marked his ball whilo he practised a putt on the green, but not towards the hole. Pleaae wiTe immediately the penalty, ,if any, necessary. ' ' The player was disqualihed.
