VISITORS PRAISE ARRANGEMENTS

Sunshine throughout the day attracted large crowds to the Hawke's Bay Agricultural and Pastorat Society' s Spring Show at Tomoana to-day. By yesterday afternoon the sun had driven.away the rain clouds which had been hanging overhead for some days, and this morning it shone in full glory for People' s Day. With the weather in favour, success is assured, and the gate takings to-day and the spending of money inside the show will probably establish a record. Visitors from all parts of New Zealand were present, and Judging from comments overheard they were greatly impressed with all they saw- The organisation of the show, particulariy* came in for much favourable mention. light spring frocks were in evidence on the lawn and in ibther parts of the grounds. With a clear sky overhead' and » a cool spring breeze, these could be worn without the usual fears of a sudHen rainstorm. Others to take a'dvantage of the spring weather were the picnickers, who enjoyed a light lunch, al fresco, beneath the sfiady trees. Some reclined at ease on rugs, others sat on the stfeps of their m6tor-cars, but all seemed supremely happy, and a contented crowd is a splendid augury for a- good day's business. Shopkeepers are agreed that vvarm weather stimulates trade and results in freer spending of money. The side-shows were well patronised throughout the day. There were more of these attractions this year than usual, for * the Royal Show at Palmerston North, which follows closely on our own event, has attracted greater numbers of them here. A 5 steady stream of buses and taxis from all parts of the district kept discharging their loads of human freight at the show gates all day long and the stream of private cars was as large as ever. ^ With the bulk' of the judging completed yesterday, to-day I ,was devoted mainly to the horse evepts, parades of stock, and j| ithe dog parade. jjf - The model-aeroplane section was a feature of the exhibits | again this year, and proved a source of interest to many. The g models were well constructed and gave evidence of skillful and |j painstaking work on the part of the exhibitors. | High praise was to be heard ori all sides for the splendid & staff work and organisation. A number of trade exhibitors re- p marked that the show arrangements at Tomoana were second * to none in New Zealand. The success of the efforts of the sec- i retary, Mr A. M. Retemeyer, was plainly visible in the smooth j; running of the whole event. - f A word of praise is due also to the Automobile Associa- £ tion (Hawke's Bay), whose service offieers were again busy on the grounds giving assistance to motorisjs. Equally valuable help was given by the police and traffic offieers, who controlled the flow of traffic in a capable manner, enabling smooth working of the thousands of cars and buses. The adjoinjng 'Waikoko" property is a delightf ul haven where the visitor, having tired of the raucous voices of the sideshowmen and their loudly-proclaimed offers of "a prize every time," may wander .in solitude along ilarrow winding lanes "with the leafy brancHes of the trees above his head and , • at his feet a profusion.o'f flowers in blossom. Here are pretty , rustic bridges over' mimature streams of clear water which at times merge to form dancing fountains. A visit to Waikoko is a fitting conclusion for most people attending the show.
