Acute Position Revealed I

MASTERTON, Last Night. A grave view is taken by members of the Wairarapa Hospital Board of the acute shortage of probationer and trained nurses. TI10 matron o-f the Masterton Hospital stated to-day that, in order to staff tfie Institution adequately, she was faced with the alternative of stopping days off or postponing the ahnual feave of nurses. ltecently two advertisements by the board for a maternity sister and a staff nurse failed to elicit a single reply. It was pointed out that the position was not peculiar t0 Wairarapa *but general throughout New Zealand. Members considered that with tlie 40-' hour week other walks of life were beco-ming much mpre attractive to girls than the nursing prqfession. It .was thought in the near future the position might become even more acute, and it was stated that the board might have to cunsider dosmg down oue ward,
