Kelburn Home Much Damaged

WELLINGTON, This Day. A fiie diocovered iu an upper room in Mrs W. S. Austin's eight-roomed .house at North Terrace, Kelburn, developed into a spectacular blaze. The brigade was sumrnoned at 8.30 and, by the timo they arrived, the flames had a stroixg hold. They rau out three leads but the main hydrant failed, owihg to a hroken easting, and precious minutes were lost while a new hydrant was got into position further up the street and longer leads brought into play. The result was thc complete guttiixg of the upper storey and heavy damage to the lower portions of tho house by smokc and water. Tho smoke was so denso ikafc firenien had clifHeulty iu eixteiing the place and several wera badly affected. Tlie house is understood to be insured for £1609,
