MISS BATTEN HOPS-OFF

Attempt on Flight Record SAFE ARRIVAL AT BATAVIA (Receievd 20, 8.45 a.m.) DARWIN, Oct. 19. Miss Jean Batten took off at 6 a.m. local time on the attempt to break Mr Broadbent's Australia-to-England flight record. The Administrator, Mr Abbott, and his family, with wkom she stayed while at Darwin, and a number of wetl-wishers bade her farewell Asked whether she was glad to be' slarting, Miss Batten replied; "Yes, but nofc as glad as I wili De when I, turn for home." A later message from Batavia reports: Miss Batten arrived here at 4.45 p.m, local time. Later; Miss Batten left for Alorstar at 2 a.m. local time. She described her flight from Darwin as "fairly good."
