"An improved passenger service will be made available between Wellington and Napier, coincident witk tke taking over of tke unopened portion of tke railway line to Wairoa by tke working Railways Department," said tke Minister oi Railways, tke Hon. D. G. Sullivan, in reply to an urgent question asked t>y Mr. E. L. Cullen (Govt. Hawke's Bay) in the Houso of Representatives to-day. Mr. Cullen kad asked tke Minister* wketjier he was now able to state when tke improved passenger servioe per medium of tke rail-car would be made available between Wellington and Napier. Associated witk Mr. Cullen in asking tke question were tke Speaker, tke Hon. W. E. • Barnard, Sir Alf red Eansom (Nat., Pahiatua) and Mr, H. M. Uhristie (Govt., Waipawa). "Twelve months ago," said Mr. Cullen, ' ' a like question was asked of tke Minister, wko then stated in reply tkat a raii-car service would not be ready for last summer, but tkat tke construction of 'such cars would be proceeded witk as expeditiously as possible, and tkat the Claims of Hawke 's Bay would not be overlooked when tke cars were available." Mr. Sullivan said tkat tke comple-^ tion of the standard type of rail-car,' wkick was now under construction, kad been held up by the difficulty in obtaining tke necessary material and equipmcnt from abroad.
