Hatuma Institute

Support for the antique exhibition suggested by the Southern Hawke's Bay Federation's conference was promised by the Hatuma Women 's Institute at its monthly meeting, which took the form of a "members' day." Mrs. 0. Lowes took the chair. Mrs. Carey, who is a fluent speaker, gave an interesting talk on the cities of Italy. Solos by Mrs. W. Hopkinson were enjoyed, and two competitions were entered into with great interest, "surnames" being won by Miss Simmons, and 'i advertisemettts " by Miss J. Edgar. A humorous farce, "Sudden death,!' caused much merriment. Those talcing part were: Mesdames F. A. Riddle, J. Lawther, G. B. Lowes, and Miss K. Riddle. After afternoon-tea had been dispensed by Mesdames M. H. Collins, Brunton, R. S. Allan Bayliss, D. Kirk, H. T. Wright and S.. A. Robinson, the competitions for the month were judged, with the following results: — Prettiest apron: Miss Simmons 1 and 2, Mrs. Patterson 3. Homemade soap: Miss Simmons 1, Mrs. John Wilson 2. Best bloom: Mrs Allan 1, Miss J. Allan 2, Mrs. J. Hobson 3. The sale-tablo did steady business during the afternoon.
